Fáilte – Welcome

Designed for comfort, luxury, and location this five-star self-catering cottage on the Isle of Lewis carries a definite Wow factor!

In a truly unique location amid the spectacular scenery of the Island of Lewis and Harris in the Outer Hebrides, Beach Bay Self Catering Cottage is nestled on the edge of the unspoiled white sands of Uig Bay, a National Scenic Area.  This is one of the most beautiful beaches on Scotland’s Atlantic Coast.

The cottage is a stunning natural stone and turf roofed, single-storey detached cottage, built into the hillside reflecting an ancient Neolithic design. The cottage boasts truly breathtaking beach views through its 180-degree bay window, which sits just 20 yards from the edge of the family-friendly beach.  You can directly access the beach less than 110 yards from the door. Sit and watch the tide come in and out revealing the stunning white sands. The Red River or Abhainn Dearg in Gaelic runs into the bay and has runs of both Salmon and Sea Trout which if you’re lucky, you can see leaping in the bay.

In a very secluded and magical location, the surrounding area of the cottage is a paradise for families, artists, walkers, fishing enthusiasts, photographers, and bird-watchers. It’s not unusual to see golden and sea eagles soaring over the cottage, sea otters swimming around the coast or a stag wandering the moorland.

OUTDOORS

There are many outdoor activities nearby, such as hill walking, surfing, sea and freshwater fishing for trout and salmon, golf, bird watching, boat trips (including to the World Heritage Site of St Kilda), diving and sea kayaking.  There are several safe and scenic cycle routes on the single track roads. The landscape and history of the Outer Hebrides, together with the hospitality of its people, provide a wonderful escape from the pressures of modern life and offer an active or relaxing family holiday or the perfect romantic retreat.

Abhainn Dearg Distillery is a short walk away, and the local community shop only a 3-mile drive.

TOP 100

Listed in the top 100 of Wanderlust’s greatest travel experiences they quote:

“Scotland’s remote isles are the only places in Britain to make this list, a tribute, perhaps, to their other-worldly beauty. Cut off by the wind-whipped waters of the Minch, rural populations have expanded and collapsed over the centuries, but small-scale crofting endures today. Ringed by some of the UK’s loveliest white-sand beaches and crystal-clear waters, these islands are a mecca for marine wildlife too, with whales, dolphins, porpoises and basking sharks all visiting at various times of the year. Hikers and bikers will find trails galore, or you could take to the skies and kitesurf over Barra’s beach airstrip, the only one in the UK.”
